The Ambassador Bridge was built long before Dave Yonka was born, but one day in the very near future his children will be able to say their dad played a role in the construction of the Gordie Howe International Bridge.
“They think it’s pretty awesome,” Yonka said of his children’s reaction to learning he’s one of several truck drivers delivering the concrete beams that will form the road that crosses the Detroit River. “These pieces will be set into the frame (currently under construction) and then concrete will be poured over it. Each shipment weighs about 56,000 pounds and has to be unloaded with a crane. It’s very cool.”
